THE IMPACT OF THE EURO
More than 80 % of UK firms are not prepared for the introduction of the Euro. And when will that be - 10 years, 5 years, 2001? Wrong! It will be in January next, just 4 months away.
Although Britain will not be in the EMU by then [perhaps not ever], those 11 other countries that will be quickly up and running in the euro zone together account for nearly half of all British exports. There will be significant pressure on British businesses to quote Euro prices, as that is what virtually all your European competitors and no doubt other international players will do. A by-product of this development is that your pricing will be much more transparent, and hiding behind [alleged] exchange rate differentials wont work. If you havent already done so, this is the time to review your financial systems and pricing policy as a matter of urgency.
