RECORDING COURSE ACCREDITATION SCHEME SPREADS ITS WINGS

Following the success of the APRS's Education and Training Initiative's Joint Audio Course Accreditation scheme with the MPG - the Music Producers' Guild - the two organisations are in discussion to extend their joint activities to Education and Training providers in the broader music industry.

Under the umbrella of a joint initiative called METTA-b - Music, Entertainment and Technology Training Accreditation Board - they will set out to provide a one stop for students and employers seeking authoritative and independent information about recording, music technology and music business courses.

"The recent proliferation of Recording and Music Technology courses has demonstrated a wide variety in quality of provision and the expectations of both the students and their would-be employees", said David Ward, Director of Education and Training at the APRS. " We recognise the trend toward industry playing a greater role in directing its own training need feel a particular responsibility to young people who have such high hopes of finding a real career somewhere in the music business.."

"It was clear to us during the recent MPG/MU tour around the UK - visiting 8 different Cities, that stronger links between the Music Industry and Education are needed. We would encourage all Music Industry representative organisations to join us in the METTA-b initiative', said Phil Harding, Chairman of MPG.

APRS Director of Education and Training, David Ward commented:
"We hope to broaden the present accreditation horizon by involving other industry trade associations to reflect the diversity of courses available and have therefore already had some discussions with other trade bodies and will be working fully with various government departments. We are pleased to acknowledge the support of AMS-Neve and SSL for this project "
