APPS at The Production Show - 21-23 May
Six weeks after NAB, the US broadcast event, and two week after AES in Munich, The Production Show 2002 (May 21st-23rd) is being held at Olympia's National Hall. For those who will not make it to either show, this event will be the UK premier of many of the exhibitors latest product launches.
The Production Show also has a wider remit than NAB and AES and so there will be a number of features and exhibitors that will appeal to everyone including sound reformists and assistants, post-production mixers, sound designers, mixers, editors and supervisors.
Taking a leading role in the interactive areas and technology workshops will be the Audio Zone, which has been extended this year. It is endorsed by Digidesign and Tyrell, who will be presenting three of the eight free audio sessions along with the IBS, APPS and AMPS.
Simon Bishop (Freelancer) and Dennis Weinreich (Post-Production Studios Group Director, APRS) will be discussing how recording sound on HDTV shoots, brings new problems for the recordist.
Other sessions in the Audio Zone are:
The AES 31 Interchange Format, Chaired by Mark Yonge (AES). This session will include practical demonstrations of file interchange between equipment from a range of different manufacturers, including Sadie, Zaxcom, Genex and Akai.
Surround Sound monitoring, Chaired by Peter Thomas (Professional Monitor Company) Using a wide range of examples, the session will address discrete 5.1 monitoring, encoded systems for broadcasting and the centre loudspeaker versus phantom centre question.
Secure File Delivery with Rocket Network, Chaired by - Tim Bran (Rocket Network). A high-speed Internet connection will enable a demonstration of how Rocket's Global Production Network links studios, directors and artists via a secure central server system.
The sessions are all on a first come first serve basis, so it will be worth getting to the show early. For further information see www.productionshow.com
